Prices
Is it worth its price or not worth the money?
How do you know if the service you require is worth its price? One criterion for a good translation may be quality. But how can we measure quality of a linguistic service if the quality clearly depends on the linguist’s skills and know-how. Indeed, there are several quality norms (e. g. the European quality norm DIN EN 15038) specifying exactly what a good translation must include. Next to certain linguistic characteristics, the translator should also have an educational translation background: something not as easy to find, since the job title “translator” is not protected and may be used by anyone. Hence, there are many translators offering their services despite of their lack of skills needed for this job. This again may cause not only small but major damage. Would you like to print a catalogue that not only includes mistakes but also sounds like a translation? Would this service be worth its price or simply not worth the money?
